Gorges and Hiking in Eastern Crete

Kato Zakros - Xerokambos: Xerokambos Gorge

A small but impressive gorge 1 Km far from the Xerokambos beaches.

Xerokambos gorge is located at a deserted and rocky area between Ano Zakros and the touristic region of Xerokambos. Its entrance is located 500m far from the sea, 1 km northern from the settlement.

On your way from Zakros to Xerokambos on your left you can see the shape of the gorge. Its total length is not more than 2-3 kms.

The gorge is easily accessed at its first kilometer. Then it is divided into two. Its left part stops in a few meters, but its right one is to be accessed for almost 1.5 kms. This part is difficult in its cross, because there is no clear-sighted path and there are a lot of rocks and bushes which hinder the access. The gorge ends very close in the middle of the way from Zakros to Xerokambos.
