One more unknown gorge of the area of Xerokambos. From the settlement of Xerokambos, on your way to Ziros’ plateau in a distance of 2 kms, you will see the gorge, as you are ascending the turns.
It starts from 50m above see level and ends to the small village of Lamnoni, 4 kms north-east of Ziros village and 600m high.
Ascending the gorge is a little bit tiring, so we suggest the visitors who desire to cross the gorge that they should start from the top and descend. You will need 2 hours walking, but you will not get tired at all.
On your way in the gorge you will enjoy the beauty of the wild walls of the gorge in combination with the panoramic view of the Libyan Sea.
On your way you will find not one tree, but only bushes and rocks. This gorge might have the less vegetation in the eastern Crete.
From Ziros there is an asphalt road, which leads to the Lamnoni settlement (photo). In the 4 kms of driving you will meet the homonymous plateau, which surrounds the isolated small settlement.
As you drive the small plateau, the first dust road on the right (photo) you will meet, is the one which leads to the entrance of the gorge.
Following this dust road, after 1 km driving, you will arrive to a country house. Just in the east the gorge starts taking shape.
You will pass by a lonely tree by a well. You will also to pass through some doors made of barbed wire (used by herdsmen).
There is a clear footpath from the beginning of the gorge till its end on the asphalt road near Xerokambos. It is not marked, but you surely meet no problems.
When you will arrive to Xerokambos, be sure you will enjoy your swimming in the emerald waters of its beaches.
The most ideal season for this excursion is from November to June, when mountains and Gorge are full ofherbs and wild flowers.
