    1. Many thanks for this very useful Travel Guide. I read avidly everything about the news of the Greek edonomy and I was genuinely beginning to wonder whether it would be foolish to go to Crete this year. On the strength of this note I have just booked our flights for May to Heraklion Crete and we desided to have our holidays in Ostria Hotel, Palekastro. We love Greece and we will support the people there..

    2. Hi! I am thinking of booking a weeks holiday in east Crete for me and my 6 & 9 year old children and have never been to Crete before. We want a place like Palekastro or Sitia that is small and pleasant but in easy access to a local village and good beach. Palekastro and Ostria Hotel looks very charming..

    3. Nice village and nice Hotel!
The closest beach is Chiona, about 15 minutes walk from Hotel Ostria. This small beach of fine sand offers a better protection from the meltemi wind than Kouroumenos. This is a long (over 2 km) sandy beach popular with wind wind-surfers because of the frequent wind.

Both these beaches are quiet beaches, even in high season but if you want it even quieter, there are more remote bays nearby. I recommend this holiday village and Hotel Ostria.

    4. Excellent staff- get the balance of friendliness, privacy and helpfulness just perfect ! Fantastic location near great beaches, sights and restaurants with ‘no touts’, beautiful rooms.

    5. My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay at the hotel Ostria last year. We had underestimated the July heat in Crete, so taking a lazy breakfast in the cool and very cute breakfast room was just the ticket. The breakfast is good. The family who own the hotel are extremely helpful. The stylish Ostria hotel is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding region in East Crete.

There are also some nice places to eat in the charming streets in the village, close to the hotel. Enjoy!

      1. Yes, this is all from an American perspective: I do the more frequent holidays trips to various Central American destinations. It’s not too far from here and not as expensive as other options, and I think that’s what Americans want. I also think Americans really just love traveling to Europe and os curse Greece and Crete. Since the dollar has strengthened a bit since the beginning of the year, I think that might help convince people to head on over. I am visiting Palekastro and Crete for the second time and i had always in Greece excellent vacations with my family. East Crete is a wonderful place for relaxing days. Never forget beaches like Itanos and Kouremenos…

    6. We had a perfect holiday with 2 kids (aged 3 and 9 months). We look forward to going back and have no hesitation in recommending Ostria Hotel…

    7. Ostria Hotel is a lovely friendly hotel, with beautiful views, try and get a front facing room to Palekastro or Hiona beach area, the view is lovely. Very peaceful, no noise from main road and 5 min walk into Palekastro center with the shops and tavernas
