Koutsouras
Koutsouras Village: Α picturesque developing settlement built by the people of Stavrochori, by the sea on the South axe, 35κm away from Sitia on the way to lerapetra, which is seat of the Makris Gialos municipality. Ιn the last decades Koutsouras has been greatly developing in both the rural and tourism sector. It is a center of pre-season vegetable cultivation in greenhouses.
Over Koutsouras is located the traditional settlement of Tsikalaria with the “pirate path” passing through, a historic remain of the Byzantine and Post-Byzantine years. The mountain sides ίn the south of Koutsouras are covered by pine forests while ίn the east there is a recreation ground, the “Koutsouras forest”. Koutsouras together with the neighbouring settlements of Makri Gialos and Analipsi are forming an urban entity developing to a modern town.
